Week of 2/7/2010

This week was run a bit different than most weeks due to the Best of the Best in the Midwest meet held on 2/6.  We didn't have the monolift reassembled for those of us that did not participate in the meet for Sunday's squat day, so we had to tweak it a bit.  I got in gear for all training days for the first time since I started training at SOS.

As far as the gear goes, I'm using borrowed stuff, kind of testing different brands until I find something that works really well.  I had been using an Inzer Black Denim for the first few times I put one on and switched to an Overkill shirt custom made for Al Caslow this week.  I figured I'd give it a go and see how it felt.  I have to say, the fit wasn't optimal (obviously Al has bigger guns than I do so the arms were a bit loose) but the shirt was awesome.  Now, I don't know much about shirts, but it felt like there was a ton of pop compared to the denim shirt.

As for the squat suit, I'm using one borrowed from Jesse Noell.  It's a Metal Ace and seems to be way too much suit for me.  I'm going to try a few others Sunday 2/14 that a couple of guys are bringing.  I'll report on those next week.

As for the week's work, Monday we hit up quite a bit of shirted bench, doing 1 or 2 sets of 2 or 3 reps with 1, 1.5 and 2 boards.  Weights also ranged a ton.  All sets went a lot better than I expected and was happy with the Overkill shirt results.  I can't wait to get into some weights that are closer to my max and see how it performs.  Along with the shirted bench, I did quite a bit of accessory work (back, bicep, tricep).

Wednesday I tried to pull for the first time in a suit and it went ok.  Since the Metal Ace is too much suit for me, it made it pretty difficult to get down to even get to the bar! I got down as far as I could and made due.

Friday was accessory work only.  Pretty quick day.  Then we went and grubbed on some BBQ afterwards!  I'll get more detail going next week when we start the prep phase for the Big Iron meet on 4/17.  This will be my first meet and I'm pretty excited about it.  Training is going to be a bit of a challenge for at least a few of the weeks due to work travel but I'll do my best to find somewhere to do the work in whatever city I'm in.
